Though petite comparatively, this state park has been voted the #1 attraction in the state of Illinois for its incomparable sights. Starved Rock State Park offers 13 scenic miles of trails that meander through canyons and around waterfalls. Most notable of the bunch are LaSalle Canyon and French Canyon.
At nearby Starved Rock Lodge, you’ll find a wealth of additional activities to enjoy under the park’s canopy of leaves. Take a trolley tour or explore the park by water on a river cruise. Springfield is where the Illinois State Fair, home of the 500-pound butter cow, is held every year.
