RV Camping Checklist
Picture this: You’ve had a great day of hiking and you’re ready to settle in around the campfire at your RV site. What could be better than s’mores to reward yourself? The only problem is you’ve forgotten the fire starter or the graham crackers.
To smooth out every possible metaphorical bump in the road for you, our team at Mark Wahlberg RV has put together this comprehensive RV camping checklist. Never leave Columbus, Ohio, without everything you need again by reading below!
Fundamentals & Mishap Must-Haves
First and foremost, you want to be prepared for everything. An RV is like a tiny home, so you’ll need safety staples that you’d keep in your house like a fire extinguisher, flashlights with extra batteries, surge protectors, and a plunger. Other RV-specific essentials that you’ll need include:
- RV-safe toilet paper and sewer kit.
- Vehicle battery jumper cables.
- Leveling blocks and wheel chocks.
- Back-up portable generator.
- Shovel and snow kit for inclement weather.
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Necessities for Comfort & Cooking
Depending on the make and model of your RV, you may have all the luxuries of home like a washer and dryer, full kitchen appliances, and a private bathroom on deck. You’ll want to keep these areas of your RV stocked with their essential items, like:
- Extra towels, sheets, blankets, and pillows.
- Laundry detergent and hangers for drying.
- Dish soap and a dish drying rack.
- Plates, cups, bowls, and cutlery made from non-breakable material.
- Extra paper towels, garbage bags, sponges, and storage containers.
Cooking on the go requires planning ahead with a thorough grocery list. However, there are several pantry staples you should have on hand that you don’t need to buy every time:
- Herbs and spices, including salt and pepper.
- Cooking spray and cooking oil.
- Condiments like ketchup and mustard.
- Baking essentials like flour and sugar.
- Non-perishables like canned goods and peanut butter.
Don’t forget a can opener! You don’t want to be a day’s worth of driving away from civilization and craving soup before you realize you have no way of opening your dinner.
Everyday Essentials
Think about how many personal items you use everyday in your stationary home: toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, hand soap, etc. You’ll need all of these items on the road as well. Some extras you may want to have stocked up in your RV include:
- Any prescriptions that you take as well as pain reliever medications.
- Extra contact lenses or extra pair of glasses as well as sunglasses.
- Chargers for your phone, laptop, and other electronics.
- Hair care products like a brush, hair ties, and shaving materials.
You’ll also want to be conscious of packing your personal documents. In a waterproof container or gallon plastic bag, you’ll want to make sure you have your driver’s license, passport if you have one, credit/debit cards, cash, and any reservation confirmations that you have.
Outdoor Basics for Optimized Exploring
One of the best parts of owning an RV is your ability to be on the trail in the first few steps out your front door. So, you’ll always want to have your hiking gear on standby like rain-proof hiking gear, sturdy hiking boots, and high, thick socks to ward off ticks.
Hiking is even more enjoyable when it’s done safely. For an all-around safe outdooring experience every time, you’ll also want to have these items on standby in your RV:
- First aid kit, including poison ivy cream.
- Bug spray and tick spray.
- Sunscreen of at least 30 SPF.
- Navigational tools like maps or GPS device.
- Blister kit with antibiotic treatment.
